Puppet theatre “Hands off!” – Making children strong
Within the framework of a project of the German City of Constance, a local puppet theatre
staged a show called “Pfoten weg!” (= Paws off!) for children four years of age and older. The aim
was to warn young children against acts of abuse, to make them strong and give them courage in
dealing with their feelings.
In an exciting story involving little animals, three kittens and their friends, the young children
watching the performance are taken up into the action and are called upon to help the three kittens
out in a difficult situation.
As the story goes, the cat family is expecting a visit by the kittens' Auntie and Uncle. But instead
of being glad about the visit, the three kittens aren't at all happy about the slobbering kisses and
the fondling they are used to getting from Auntie and Uncle. Thanks to advice given by their friends
the hedgehog, the rabbit, and the piglet, and especially through the intervention of a mysterious
cat-fairy, they learn how to stand up and to protect themselves.
