Youth camp “Find your world” – Phase 1
After the fire:
Asylum with the Muslims
The organizers
“After the fire, it was clear that the Jewish cabin was no longer habitable. The question was, what
to do next? The planned phase of living separately was not yet at an end. To make it short, the Jews
moved into the cabin of the Muslims, giving the project an interesting turn. One can only say,
'Necessity makes quick friends'.”
David (a Jewish boy)
“For the rest of the phase of living separately, we Jews were housed in the Muslim cabin.
Since the Jewish and Muslim groups had already gotten to know each other, there were no
problems living together.”
Dilek (the Muslim girl)
“I was sitting at the table when Issy came into our cabin and asked for asylum, since the Jewish
cabin was no longer habitable. We ate breakfast together with the Jews. Already on Wednesday
evening we had been in contact with the Jews, so their premature moving in with us didn't seem
that difficult.
Already our first meeting had quickly given us the impression that in religious
matters we had much in common with the Jews. So there were sympathies on both sides. We pursued
our Muslim-Jewish dialog further. We would read passages from the Qur'an and they would look for
corresponding passages in the Bible.”
