Deutsche Post World Net (Transport and Logistics)

• In 2005, the German periodical manager magazine named the Deutsche Post “the most social” of all German corporations.

• The corporation has formulated a Code of Conduct on the basis of concern values, which since 2006 is binding for all regions and fields of activity.

• After a “family pause”, the firm helps to reintegrate workers.

• Efforts are made to integrate the handicapped and to give further training to older workers.

• In Shanghai, the company maintains its own company university.

• For environmental protection, the firm promotes shipment by rail and the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles. Mail is delivered mostly by foot or by bicycle.

• A strongpoint of the firm's social engagement is in the management of catastrophes:
– Application of its logistic capacities to the distribution of relief supplies as in the tsunami in South Asia;
– in cooperation with UN relief organizations, creation of a world-wide network of catastrophe intervention teams with DHL-staff members on a voluntary basis.

• Examples of humanitarian engagement are
– cost free transportation of medical supplies to developing countries,
– material donations to educational facilities in the Third World,
– cooperation with the humanitarian organization Aktion Mensch.

Taken as a whole, the Deutsche Post World Net has a well-thought-out corporate social responsibility concept: in choosing fields for its engagement, it relies on its central areas of competence, e.g. logistics for catastrophe management, and thus achieves the greatest possible advantages for society as a whole and for the company itself.
