• Six basic values have been formulated and are part of the management
agreements: safety, health, environmental protection, mutual respect,
open dialogue and integrity.
• With its diversity programme, BASF attempts to increase the role of women and
foreign workers in management.
• Company children's care centres make it easier to reconcile parenthood and occupation.
• Special measures are taken to insure the safety and health of the working force.
• Effort is made to maintain good relations to neighbours, e.g. information
through neighbourhood forums, cooperation with local institutions and associations.
• Concrete environmental goals are set, e.g. emissions reduction (10% in the atmosphere
and 40% in water by 2012) and already have been partially achieved.
• Education is a strongpoint of the firm's social engagement: expressed in the promotion
of language competency among small children, sponsorship of schools in the region and a special
project to interest children in scientific subjects.
• Humanitarian engagement finds expression in the donation of mosquito nets for the
prevention of malaria and the donation of vitamins for the undernourished.
The CSR-Programme of the BASF brings advantages for all the stakeholders and for the corporation itself: it pursues environmental protection, wins the confidence of staff and neighbours, and earns public sympathy, all of which means good advertising.
