Instruments of the International Labour Organization (ILO) –  2

• With the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (1998) the member states of the ILO have committed themselves to the principles contained therein.

• To date, over 100 countries have ratified all the conventions.

• The member states are obliged to submit a yearly report about their measures to achieve the principles of the agreement.

• The Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (2000) is directly addressed to internationally active businesses and to the countries represented in the organization.

• The ILO declaration contains the basic norms of work and, in addition, regulations for minimum wages.

• Trade unions can protest when business concerns fail to conform to the agreed on principles.

• The ILO declaration treats only socio-political themes and is supported by the social partners and the governments in developing countries.
