Joining the Compact calls for publishing a written declaration of the business
enterprise addressed to the UN General Secretary stating the intention to observe
the ten principles.
At the latest, every two years a progress report must be published, documenting the
measures taken to achieve the principles and reporting experience gained thereby.
Enterprises, which fail to issue their report, are listed under a special rubric on the
homepage of the Global Compact. Failing to issue a report twice in a row leads to expulsion
from the compact.
Current statistics
Since the official start of the Global Compact on 26 July 2000, over 5,000 organizations have joined the Compact, of them some 3,700 concerns in 120 countries. To date, over 50 national networks have been established, and others are in the process of formation.
