global-compact

Foundation 31 January 1999:
During the World Economic forum in Davos, the UN General Secretary, Kofi Annan, proposed the establishment of a Global Compact.

Goals of the Global Compact:
• Strengthening the cooperation between the UN and the business enterprises.
• Achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Conception:
• The Global Compact calls for business enterprises world wide to work for a social and ecological world economic order.
• It is conceived as an action-oriented forum for learning, as a dialogue, in which the best practices for the achievement of the ten principles are published and supported.
• The Global Compact is not an instrument of regulation, but relies instead on the voluntary engagement of the business enterprises.
