• The costs for the Siemens concern have been high: 500 million Euros
alone for back-tax payments, a billion Euros for investigating and cleaning up the scandal.
• The American Securities and Exchange Commission forced the dismissal
of a substantial number of Siemens top-managers.
• The reputation of former Siemens CEO Heinrich von Pierer as a model
businessman has been permanently damaged.
• The confidence of the business world and the public in what was
reputed to be a model company has been severely shaken.
• There are grounds for fear that the company's bad example will find
imitators in the threshold and developing countries.
