Conflicts are resolved without recourse to force or violence. The misuse of religion to generate hate and violence is rejected and proscribed.
Process of reconciliation
Reconciliation begins by acknowledging the violent actions committed by ones own religious community in the past, then approaching the other party and asking forgiveness.
Charitable and humanitarian aid
Through their humanitarian aid, the religion-based agents are on the spot where the conflict occurs. They know the situation well and create additional trust by their presence and their humanitarian aid.
Inter-religious and inter-ethnic orientation
Religion-based agents exercise their humanitarian and their peace-making efforts across all religious and ethnic divisions.
Specific profile and religious character
Every “religion-based agent” should have his/her own specific profile in accordance with his/her religion. Nevertheless, in peace-making situations, there is no room for religious arrogance or pursuit of missionary goals: one must respect the dignity of other believers and their differences in belief and practice.
Religious elements such as praying or fasting together, demonstrating under the banner of religious symbols etc. can help to create solidarity and mutual trust and thus strengthen the will to achieve peace.
