Religion and Violence: An explanation of concepts

Beside such forms of direct force/violence, various forms of indirect violence are distinguished, e.g. structural pressure, economic pressure, cultural pressure, which also produce such negative effects.
Force/violence can also be used, however, to impede negative effects on people, e.g. by the military peace missions of the UN.

What is the meaning of “violence”?

In the present context, force/violence means primarily using direct means to exercise
a negative influence on another person. Such means can be of a psychological (verbal abuse, threat, intimidation) or of a physical nature.
