Intercultural translation of the human rights

Outside the Western World, there are cultural and ideological traditions, which constitute a different background for defining and interpreting the human rights.

Thus the African Banjul Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (1981) emphasizes the collective rights of peoples based on African traditions and values and reflecting the experience of
colonialisation, e.g. the right to self-determination. Likewise in the Islamic world and in China, there is much discussion about the compatibility between the human rights and the cultural and religious traditions.
