Early Modern Times: The Habeas-Corpus-Act in England – 1

His son, King Charles II (1680–1685) claimed absolute sovereignty in the realm. He too flaunted the rights of parliament. To prevent such arbitrary exercise of power by the king, the parliament passed the “Habeas-Corpus-Act” in 1679, which was meant to protect the citizen from arbitrary imprisonment.
