A state that is not pleasant or delightful to me must be so for him also; and a state which is not pleasant or delightful for me, how could I inflict that on another? (Samyutta Nikaya V, 353.35-354.2)
The avoidance of what is evil,
the undertaking of good,
the cleansing of one’s mind,
this is a teaching of the awakened ones. (Dhammapada 183)
Do not be led by reports, nor by tradition, nor hearsay.
Do not be led by the authority of religious texts, nor by mere logic [...]
nor by the idea “this is your teacher”.
But when you know for yourselves that certain things are unwholesome, wrong and bad,
then give them up.
But when you know for yourselves that certain things are wholesome and good, then accept and follow them. (Vimamsaka Sutta)
