The revival of Islam

Successes:

The 50’s and 60’s:
The Islamic nations achieved independence of the European colonial powers.

The 70’s:
Military and economic advances, after the Arab-Israeli War, the oil embargo and the victory of Ayatollah Khomeini over the Shah and the USA.

Disappointments:

• Disappointment over the West, its political and economic instability, its one-sided support of Israel, its immorality and godlessness.
• Fundamental doubts about the modern paradigm represented by Europe and the Americas.
• Call by Islamists for an Islamic state as a new spiritual basis for the economy, culture and society.
