1960
named professor in Tübingen.
1962 named official theological advisor to the Council (peritus) by Pope John XXIII.
1963 appointed founding director of the Institute for Ecumenical Research in Tübingen.

Along the lines of the Council, Hans Küng works for reform within the Church, for Christian Ecumenism and for an opening up to the world religions.
The Catholic Church’s insistence on papal infallibility and the controversial birth-control encyclical “Humanae vitae” of Pope Paul VI. led Hans Küng to initiate the critical inquiry “Infallible?”.
